Ask the Expert
Q.
My department is responsible for supporting a very mobile workforce. How can we simplify the management of all the various systems we're responsible for, while staying within our budget constraints?
A.
The mobility of modern enterprises' workers can be one of an enterprise's strengths. Yet managing such a mobile workforce is a major pain point. A number of SaaS-delivered services are available that can reduce costs and simplify management.
Remote desktop management enables IT to centrally update, patch and troubleshoot laptops using a Web-based console, while ensuring compliance and security. Using remote desktop management, IT can deploy new software applications, view the status of notebook configurations, and discover and track hardware assets.
To manage application costs, organizations are using software inventory services that monitor usage and track license compliance to eliminate unused software and unnecessary license fees. Online backup and restore services free users from having to remember to backup their data. Instead, incremental changes to employees' data are automatically encrypted and sent to secure off-site data centers.
SaaS-delivered laptop data encryption protects data on mobile PCs. All data on notebooks is first encrypted; if a notebook is lost or stolen, IT staff can remotely lock down the computer or even locate it using advanced network tracing technology.
SaaS solutions for mobile workforce management may be the simple, flexible, cost-effective answer to the challenges your department faces.
